And damn if it didn’t punch the breath right out of me to see it frozen in time like that.

The shot was framed perfectly, the bakery window catching just enough of the two of us to feel intimate without being staged.

Looking at Zoey’s face on the screen—her smile so open, her joy so real—I felt that same rush I had standing next to her. I could still remember the warmth of her hand on my forearm, light and easy, like touching me didn’t scare her in the slightest. Like she’d meant it.
And I’d wanted it to stay there longer.
Still did.

A bold headline ran along the bottom:

The video panned out to show footage from earlier that morning—me walking Isabella into the bakery, Zoey greeting her at the door. Smiles, handshakes. A close-up of Zoey’s laugh frozen mid-frame.

My stomach dropped. “I—what the hell?”
