🏈 Manuscript Monday: Character Spotlight

INTERVIEW WITH BRETT THOMPSON
*San Antonio Outlaws | Halfback | Book: Playing it Safe

Q: Brett, you're not exactly the chatty type. What made you agree to this interview?
Brett: Dylan made me.
(shrugs)
Also, Sam said if I ghosted this, she’d post that picture of me in the glitter face mask. So here we are.

Q: Let’s talk about Sam. Your sister’s best friend. Complicated much?
Brett: It’s only complicated when people get in our business.
(beat)
Okay. Yeah. It was complicated. But some people are worth every mess.

Q: You’ve played football your entire life. What would you be doing if you weren’t on the field?
Brett: Coaching. I don’t know how to do anything else. Don’t want to, either. Football’s the only place that’s ever made sense.

Q: What do you think people get wrong about you?
Brett: That I’m cold. I’m not. I just don’t perform emotion for an audience. If you matter to me—you know it. You feel it.

Q: What’s one thing fans don’t know about you?
Brett: I can braid hair.
(smirks)
Had to learn fast when Dylan asked me with a tangle the size of Texas and mom wasn’t home.

Q: Give us your game plan in five words or less.
Brett: Play hard. Love harder. Repeat.
